# Template

A template is a message format approved by Meta, used to message customers on WhatsApp, especially once the 24-hour window has passed. Templates can be used for promotions, notifications, verification and more, depending on the category you choose when you create them.

### Template statuses

Every template has one of three statuses:

* **Approved**: Meta has approved the template, and it's ready to use in broadcasts.
* **Pending**: the template is still being reviewed. You can't use it until it's approved.
* **Rejected**: Meta has rejected the template, so it can't be used. You can fix it and submit it again.

### Template types and what they're for

* **Marketing**\
  For promotions, product offers or sales campaigns. For example: *"20% off, today only!"*
* **Utility**\
  For transaction notifications or service updates. For example: *"Your order #1234 is on its way."*
* **Authentication**: for sending OTP or verification codes. For example: *"Your verification code is 123456."* This template can only be used through our **Open API**.\
